FOR anyone who wants to experience the untamed wilderness of the Blue Mountains, the Kanangra Boyd National Park is aspecial experience.

Just south of Katoomba, it provides the opportunity for such activities as bushwalking, guided tours, abseiling and rock climbing.

Kanangra Wall is noted as the site of some of the most spectacular scenery in the Blue Mountains, from the wheelchair-accessible Lookout Walk to the Plateau and Waterfall walks.

Heading west towards Oberon, Lake Oberon is open for fishing all year, with some of Australia's best trout fishing to be found in the surrounding rivers and streams.

Nearby accommodation includes the Melaleuca Mountain Chalets, close to both the town of Oberon and the famous Jenolan Caves.

High in the Central Ranges, the chalets provide panoramic views from private balconies.

Throughout the rest of the Blue Mountains region there is a wide diversity of holiday activities.

These range from walks, talks and tours organised by the National Parks and Wildlife Service to arts and crafts markets at various centres.
