Bushwalking, abseiling, climbing and canoeing are fun and adventurous, but they have the potential for injury.

St John Ambulance has devised a special remote-area first-aid course aimed at those who enjoy adrenalin sports.

A spokesperson said being in a remote area meant being isolated from medical services, which posed a real threat for anyone who suddenly became sick, had a fall, suffered a burn, ingested a poison, sustained multiple injuries or was bitten by a snake or spider.

St John, the longest established and leading authority in first-aid training, was running a course specifically designed to enable people to manage these situations with practical knowledge and skills.

For details or to enrol in the three-day course on May 21, 27 and 28, phone St John Ambulance on 42292788.
