Despite a fear of heights Ellie Roach took up the Heartstopper challenge - abseiling from 36 storeys - out of the goodness of her heart when she found out money raised would go to Mission Australia.

A small oversight - Ms Roach didn't actually know what the challenge involved before she agreed to it - meant she was forced to conquer her fear with only one abseiling lesson under her belt.

``Abseiling 36 storeys was a little daunting, but the cause was worth it," she said bravely.

``Mission Australia are always providing innovative programs for people in need.

``I am not adventurous at all and I really didn't know what I was getting myself into before I accepted."

Her boss Chris McDonald offered up the challenge and was the highest fundraiser in the Illawarra.

His reward was a 3041m freefall courtesy of Adrenalin Sports Skydive.

Ms Roach said the company had raised more than $3000 for the cause.

Mission Australia spokesman Ian Donald said a team of 24 daredevils from the region completed the abseil, raising more than the $15,000 target.

``Some participants are already in training for the 2002 event," Mr Donald laughed.

And next year promised to be bigger and better with a new dare not recommended for the faint-hearted.
