THINK of an anti-terrorism exercise and images of abseiling police and gun-toting soldiers bursting through doors come to mind.

But in reality it involves setting up mock press conferences for imaginary media inquiries.

Newcastle-based Senior Constable Tony Tamplin, the Northern Region's media officer, played the part for NSW Police in Sydney yesterday at the beginning of a week of national anti-terrorism exercises.

More 4000 government, law enforcement and security agency representatives from the states and the Australian Capital Territory attended.
